"No one wants to hear your wining." thanks, Dad.
Disclaimer: I understand that people are what they are and are into what they are into. I do not intend to judge anyone or hurt anyone's feelings.
I dare you to use google image kink. You'll find garden hoses, bicycle handbars, porn ads, a gay magazine cover featuring a man with urine running down his face, bondage, anal sex, skateboards (?), manga, latex clothing, cars, rugs, and more porn.
I mean, that kind of gives you a sense of how broad the word is, right? Fetishes can be anything to anyone. And everyone has them, whether you fetishize a woman's breasts, or that really, really sexy 'v' shape a man's abs make at the top of his pants.
At any rate, living in a rather conservative area of the country, I think it definitely pushes sexual preferences towards the extremes. I mean, if your straight, you are really, totally 100%, never-even-looked-at-another-man straight. If you are gay, you usually speak with a lisp, wear designer jeans, have a female best-friend you go shopping with, totally & stereotypically gay. Not to say there aren't exceptions to the rule, but its much less common than in places where sexuality and perversion is less taboo.
Now, for bdsm, its just a wasteland. Really, I think, if you are under 30 and not a gay man, bdsm is sort of a wasteland. But here, it really is. Peruse the fetish scene where I live (such as kinky clubs, fetlife, craigslist, etc etc) if you don't believe me, and prepare to feel the full range of human emotion- horror, amusement, joy, disbelief, apathy, disgust, etc.
Ok, this might be too much to ask, but: seriously guys? REALLY? 95% of them are over 35. 85% of them are... I don't want to be rude, but very unattractive. A solid 40% of them are into wearing the full leather kink-wear type thing.
I really don't think I can do just how silly it all is justice: steampunk (wtf), Gorean lifestyles, people with no sense of humor or style and tragic haircuts, medieval weaponry, collars, melodrama, urine-play, adult diapers and babies, names straight out of dungeons and dragons (DragonMaster, DungeonLord, Etc). Its like a bunch a people decided to take their LARP (liveactionroleplay) straight to the bedroom, fashion sense included. I know it works for some people, I'm not trying to knock them.
It just doesn't work for me. So really? There has got to be a sane, kinky, physically attractive, socially capable kink scene, with hetero or bisexual men and women who haven't yet turned 40.
Right...?
...Right...?
